Yin Yoga in Austin
A slow, seated practice that holds postures for several minutes to reach the body's deeper connective tissue.
Yin is the quiet counterpart to a flowing practice: most postures are held on the floor for three to five minutes, supported by props, so gravity and time do the work instead of muscle effort. It is well suited to students who sit at a desk all week, recover from a more active sport, or simply want permission to slow down.
What we offer
- Seated and reclined postures held for three to five minutes each
- Bolsters, blocks and blankets to support every joint fully
- A warm, dimly lit room to help the nervous system settle
- Guided attention to breath and sensation during each hold
- A long final rest at the end of every class
How to book a class
Book your place through the online form; because yin classes stay small so every student can be propped properly, seats are limited and worth reserving a day or two ahead. Arrive a few minutes early to get settled before the room goes quiet.
Price
Yin classes are priced the same as our other group classes — by single class, pack or membership — with the exact amount confirmed at booking. New students can try their first class at no charge.
Questions
Will I get bored holding one pose for minutes at a time?
Most new students are surprised by how much there is to notice once the body stops moving. Teachers guide your attention throughout each hold.
Is yin suitable if I have a stiff back or hips?
Yin is often gentler on a stiff body than a faster practice, because every posture is supported by props and nothing is forced. Mention any specific concern to your teacher before class.
How is yin different from restorative yoga?
Yin works the connective tissue around the joints with a light, steady stretch; restorative is about full support and almost no stretch at all. Many students practice both.
